If you are a new client, you will receive an email with a link to a health questionnaire. This can be completed prior to visiting the office. Upon arrival, you may have a brief discussion with the therapist to determine your goals for the massage and current levels of pain, stress, etc. The therapist will approach the session based on those specific goals, and may use a variety of modalities during the course of treatment.
Although her basic training is in Swedish and Deep Tissue, Whitney uses Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Active Release methods, various forms of stretching and other modalities she studies through continuing education or personal experiences.
It is important to share all medical information with the therapist, including recent and old injuries, medications and any illnesses currently or recently evident in the body.
Many times conversations will arise between client and therapist regarding the state of a client’s condition, and what other actions can be done to address the therapeutic process. A massage therapist does not DIAGNOSE conditions, and at no time should these conversations replace the advice of a medically trained professional. You will frequently be referred to see other professionals such as internists, physical therapists, orthopedists and even dermatologists. Please respect the scope of practice for all professionals.
Whitney is a Certified Personal Trainer, and any ideas shared regarding strength training or flexibility training is given under the scope of her certification from the American College of Sports Medicine.
